  • Alcohol-Related Disease

    Alcohol Related Disease

Alcohol-Related Disease: meeting the challenge of improved quality of care and better use of resources sets out a practical plan for implementing a national strategy to improve services for patients that repeatedly attend hospital because of their dependence on alcohol and associated health problems. Its recommendations aim to improve the effectiveness of hospital services for patients who are alcohol dependent and who present at hospital in several ways, often through A&E. The paper calls for a dedicated Alcohol Team and a lead clinician at consultant level. It suggests ways of coordinating alcohol policies across hospitals and local areas.

Launched at the 2013 BSG Annual Meeting in Glasgow on 26th June, the IBD Registry will provide the first ever UK-wide repository of anonymised IBD adult and paediatric patient data for prospective audit and research purposes.

  • UK IBD Registry

    IBD Registry

The IBD Registry will provide a means of collecting anonymised IBD patient data from across the UK for the first time. It will be fed by clinical information entered via a choice of methods: existing systems, a web portal, and a bespoke patient management system (PMS) that facilitates data entry during the consultation.

Our aim is that the UK IBD Registry dataset will not only become a unique clinical and research resource, but also help inform national service development planning and fulfil national audit, IBD standards and quality improvement benchmarks. Moreover, local reports will provide immediate benefits to clinical teams, patients and commissioners, for example by demonstrating quality for revalidation and reporting. The PMS also features a summary screen with all major aspects of a patient's disease shown at a glance, and patient-centred documents that are generated during the consultation.
